Je selling a classic carIt is (almost) always a shame, because that is usually not why you bought it. However, there are a wide variety of reasons for selling: expanding the family, no more time, ready for something different, a very good offer, or you simply need the money. In all situations, it is best for you as the seller not to be in a rush. Another possibility, of course, is that you received a fantastic offer; in that case, it is simply a top sale, naturally.

Tips for selling your classic car
Do you want to sell your classic car? You can now do so via www.klassiekerweb.nl. On our forum we have created a place where your classic car FREE you can offer for sale. Of course, you can also choose to have your car sold, but with classic cars, it is certainly worth trying it yourself first. After all, you come into contact with enthusiasts more often, so it is not the case that just anyone responds like with the average Golf or BMW a few years old. Furthermore, it naturally saves on costs if you can reach a good price directly with the buyer. It is important, however, that you are reachable for potential buyers, so if you don't check your email often, indicate that you prefer to be contacted by phone.
- A new MOT / service. (click here for tips to get your classic car through the MOT faster and cheaper)
- Resolving technical problems.
- Wash and polish and give it a good waxing (both outside and inside).
- Touch up scratches and rust spots.
- Collect the associated documents, (maintenance) history, vehicle papers, and possibly a valuation report.
What is also important is knowing what your classic car might fetch. So, do some (online) research. Look at other parties offering a similar model for sale, paying attention to the supply, the quality of your car, and factors such as mileage, damage, and originality. It is also advisable to set a minimum price for yourself. This prevents you from immediately accepting the offer of the first interested party who comes along.
Sell your classic car with good photos
Always include photos and ensure they are of good quality. Advertisements with photos are simply viewed more often. Take clear photos on a bright day and in good light. Photograph not only the exterior, but also the interior and details that make your classic car special. And perhaps you could even make a video where you walk around the car and can hear the engine running. All of this can help get a potential buyer excited. At Klassiekerweb, we also regularly promote cars for sale via our social channels, allowing you to reach over 10.000 enthusiasts in one go.
Description of your classic car
Be detailed in your description but realistic. Describe both the positive points and the points that still need attention. A buyer who knows what to expect is more likely to make a purchase.
State price of classic car
How do you determine the price of your classic car? You don't want to set the price too high, because then no one will show up. And you want to sell your classic car, but you don't want to sell it for too little either. Comparing online is a great starting point and gives a good idea of your car's value. Be sure to look beyond the borders as well, because buyers do that too. You can then also determine whether your example is in such good condition that your price might be a bit higher.
Appraiser and appraisal report
What always helps is having your car appraised. These professionals have extensive experience in determining a market-appropriate price and also know what to look for to establish the correct value. This is recorded in a document: the appraisal report. Incidentally, the appraised value is not necessarily the selling price. This is usually not the case and depends entirely on the market, the popularity of the type of classic car, and the condition of the vehicle. Keep in mind that an appraised value is by no means always equal to the selling price.
Sell your classic car yourself
There are several ways to sell your classic car. The cheapest way seems to be doing it yourself. A note in the window and an advertisement on Marktplaats can work just fine. However, I know from personal experience that these often don't attract the most serious buyers. Moreover, it is much nicer to have high-quality photos and a description that reads well. After all, that is what you look for yourself when searching for a classic car. Another thing is that you cannot offer any kind of guarantee, and there is little you can do with potential buyers who might have something to trade in. Then there is another important factor that makes the decision to sell it yourself worth considering: time. Selling simply takes time. Emailing, calling, people wanting to come by, preferably at times that don't suit you. Hoping they actually show up. Negotiating, wanting to come and look again… In any case, I don't do it anymore and have my cars sold when necessary.
Please note, however, that you are not allowed to offer your car for sale on the street within built-up areas. This has always been the case, but since 2012 you can even receive a fine if you attempt to sell your car in this manner.
Sell classic car on consignment
An interesting solution might be to have your classic car through a specialist to have it sold. You determine the selling price together, and this is recorded in a consignment agreement. Specialists often have a large (worldwide) network, so there is a greater chance that your car will find a good buyer. Always ensure that you make clear agreements and put them in writing; this prevents disagreements.
Of course, it is also possible that the specialist finds your car so interesting that he simply buys it himself and then resells it. In that case, it is simply a direct sale, so you do not have to wait for a third party to show interest.
