Every now and then, another find comes along that we love to share. This time, it is a rare 1969 Dodge Daytona standing among the cows. It is clearly a fixer-upper, but the special thing is that the car is completely original with all matching numbers. We do always wonder, though, how an owner lets it get to this point. Is it a case of saying every year: “Now I’m really going to fix it up!” only to never actually do it, or does such a vehicle just sit there languishing without the owner being bothered by it?
The first owner was a judge—no, we’re not joking about traveling judges—who bought this car for his wife. An unusual choice, to say the least, and it makes us curious about that woman! The second owner had this special version in his possession since 1974. The Charger was painted R4 Charger Red with white tail graphics. The original wing was retained, as well as the flared front fenders, wide windshield, and nose cone. Later, flames were added to both sides.
The current mileage of this Dodge Daytona is only 20.553 miles, just under 33.000 kilometers. The Dodge Magnum 440 engine, which was offered only in the Daytona and R/T versions of the 1969 Charger, is original and complete with many never-replaced parts. What makes this Daytona particularly attractive are the interior options: headrest-equipped bucket seats, the factory-fitted chrome floor shifter in the center console, the dashboard gauges, and more. Additionally, there are stereo speakers in the doors. For homologation, it was necessary to build 500 units of this Dodge; ultimately, 503 were produced.
This Dodge Daytona should fetch between $150.000 and $180.000 and goes to mecum going under the hammer. Incidentally, there is a variant that is even rarer than this version: the Charger Daytona 426 HEMI V8 with 425 horsepower and a four-speed manual transmission; only 20 of this version were built, and the price of that one is already creeping towards 1 million dollars.
