Once again (just like in 2009), we have largely succeeded in preventing the abolition of the youngtimer scheme. Now you might wonder what a report about the youngtimer scheme is doing on a site like Klassiekerweb.nl, because we normally report primarily on the classic car schemeWell, there are over 200.000 youngtimer drivers. Undoubtedly, there are a number among them who will naturally end up in a classic car.
For now, at least, it means that drivers of youngtimers can continue to add 35% of the current (daily) value to their taxable income. Naturally, the law is being tinkered with again, as there are few more important matters to deal with in The Hague.
A business youngtimer is taxed at its current market value instead of its list price. As of 2027, the age limit for the Youngtimer scheme was set to rise to 25 years. However, that is not going to happen! The limit is being shifted to 17 years as of 2027 and to 20 years on a permanent basis as of 2028: the Youngtimer scheme will therefore continue to exist. The increase in the tax addition percentage from 35% has also been taken off the table.
Youngtimer Scheme 2027 and beyond
Was the car already available on December 31, 2025? Then the scheme may be applied for the entire year in 2027 if the car turns 17 in that year, even if the birthday falls later in that year.
New inflow (purchased or made available after 31 December 2025)? Those cars can also simply enter the scheme: in 2026 as soon as the car is 16 years old, in 2027 as soon as it is 17.
From 2028, the same limit applies to all cars: 20 years. Please note: cars that are not yet 20 in 2028 (roughly manufactured between 2009 and 2011) will temporarily fall outside the scheme until they turn 20. Stichting Autobelangen will advocate for these manufacturing years to also fall under the transitional arrangement in 2028.
Cars from 2007 or older will always fall under the Youngtimer scheme, now and in the future. Cars from 2008 fall under the scheme in 2026 and 2027; in 2028 they will also fall under the scheme, but from the moment they reach the age of 20 in 2028.
Auto Interests Foundation achieves success once again

Wouter van Embden from Stichting Autobelangen, who has strongly opposed the sudden abolition, is moderately positive about the plans, but is glad that there is at least more clarity. According to him, the transitional year that has now been written into it is unnecessarily complicated and creates an odd interim phase.
But most importantly, all owners of a youngtimer are saved for now and the coming years! Although, of course, we never know what the future holds. And it is only truly final when the Senate leaves the regulation alone. However, all measures of the Tax Plan go to the Senate as a single package, so they can only approve or reject the entire package. Rejection does not normally happen. The Senate can, however, ask the Cabinet to take another critical look at certain components, so it is not yet set in stone.
Do you drive a youngtimer, or are you perhaps going to take a look now to see if there is anything nice for you somewhere?
