Sometimes you just get lucky, and that was the case today in Barcelona. We were there on business and certainly not for the classic rally, but as it happened, the participating classics were being inspected in a square in the middle of Barcelona for a stage of the 18th Monte Carlo Classic Rally. The other participating cities in this Monte Carlo Rally are Copenhagen, Glasgow, Turin, and Reims. And what beautiful examples were among them: Facellia, BMW 2002TI, Renault 8 Gordini, VW beetle and more. It must be a beautiful drive from Barcelona to Monte Carlo. Unfortunately, we couldn't stay until the start.
The Rally of Monte Carlo is one of the oldest and most famous rallies in the world; the first edition took place as early as 1911. The original idea came from Prince Albert I of Monaco, primarily intended to compete with the rival seaside resort of Nice. Through a car rally, deliberately held in January to demonstrate that the weather could also be mild at that time, an attempt was made to attract more spectators to the small principality.
