Mitsubishi 500

De Mitsubishi 500 was the first passenger car produced after World War II by Shin Mitsubishi Heavy-Industries, Ltd., one of the companies that would become Mitsubishi Motors. The model was built from 1960 to 1962 and formed the basis for Mitsubishi's next model, the Colts 600The 500 was also exported in small numbers.

Upon its introduction in 1960, this compact family car was the first mass-produced passenger car by Mitsubishi after World War II and also the first Japanese car to be tested in a wind tunnel.

The model is equipped with the most modern technologies of its time, while the car's design is simple and functional. The car features a one-piece body, a rear-mounted engine, and rear-wheel drive. The spare wheel and fuel tank are located in the front luggage compartment, and the car has a single but practical windshield wiper. Another striking detail of the Mitsubishi 500 is that the turn signals are not located at the front or rear, but on the car's center pillars.

In 1962, the 500 made its motorsport debut at the Macau Grand Prix. Here, Mitsubishi managed to secure the first three places in the A-Class with the 500.
