On the third Saturday in August, the Drenthe village of Ruinerwold is once again completely filled with classic cars. It all started in the spring of 1993 when representatives of the History Foundation and Motor Touring Club Foundation '88 were looking for a good and appealing idea for Open Monument Day. From this, the first Oldtimer Day was born, a show of old tractors, cars, and motorcycles followed by a touring rally.
In the very first year, there were already 125 participants. The reviews in the newspapers were glowing about the day. “Enormous interest in classic cars in Ruinerwold”, “Under a weak sun, the polished and restored vehicles drove through Ruinerwold to great public interest”, “Large Classic Car Show in Ruinerwold”. With this, the first successful Classic Car Day was a fact.
