As always, the Historic Grand Prix presents a particularly attractive program full of nostalgia. Historic Monoposto Racing, for example, brings Formula Ford, Formula Super Ford, and Formula 3 to Zolder: these are the 'cigars' in which all the greats – from Emerson Fittipaldi to Damon Hill and Michael Schumacher – learned their trade. And then you should know that a handful of series featuring truly iconic cars are also competing: from the Simca Rallye to classic sports cars such as the Ford Capri, Porsche 964, BMW 635 CSi, or Corvette C4 in 'our' Belcar Historic Cup.
The European GT Lite Challenge (formerly the Lotus Cup Europe), featuring primarily Lotus but also other brands, is also on the program. The Cup and Tourenwagen Trophy, on the other hand, is the playing field for touring cars and GTs with a displacement of up to 3,6 liters. Furthermore, there is the Youngtimer Trophy, Germany's most popular historic racing series. Among the fastest cars are the Group 5 Porsches that caused a sensation in the German motorsport championship back then, as well as the numerous BMW M3s that tore around in the DTM in the late 80s. Also great fun to watch is the Kampf der Zwerge, which is divided into five classes: the NSU TT Trophy with the small Prinz 1000, the Abarth Coppa Mille, the British Car Trophy with the Mini Cooper, the Histo Cup R5 Pokal featuring the Renault Gordini, among others, and a class with no real year of manufacture restriction up to 1300 cc.
And we’re not done talking yet. Formula Vee (Formel V) with a historic single-seater based on the Volkswagen, and the Historic Racecar Association (HRA) with Formula 3 cars, among others, will also be in action.
